About Roatan
About Roatan

Roatan, the largest of Las Islas de la Bahia (The Bay Islands), is a forty-mile long by four-mile wide mountainous Caribbean island off the north coast of Honduras. Once home to Spanish conquistadores and British pirates, the island now plays host to an international blend of vacationers. Whether it's diving in the crystal-clear waters off West End, soaking up sunrays on the white-sand beaches of West Bay, or relaxing in a hammock between the palm trees of Half Moon Bay, there's something for everyone to enjoy on Roatan.

In 2000, Doug, Dez and their children began vacationing to Roatan on a regular basis. "Our home is located high on a jungle hillside overlooking the rustic beach village of West End, a mere minutes walk from the town's dive shops, boutiques, bars and restaurants," says Dez. "Our favorite things to do on the island include scuba diving, riding a water taxi to West Bay beach to swim, snorkel and enjoy the sun, and visiting sites such as the botanical garden, the butterfly garden, the iguana farm, the mangrove swamps, and the Yuba Garifuna experience. Our son loves to swim with the dolphins at Anthony’s Key Resort. Like good New Orleaneans, we love to eat and listen to music and dance; fortunately, there is great nightlife near our house where we can mingle with other vacationers from all around the globe."
